The migration phenomenon is reflected in two aspects in China: urban and rural population movement; convection between foreign population and Chinese population. In Assemblage, Xia Yanguo invites five artists, Hao Jingban, Ming Wong, Tao Hui, Wang Chong, Enoch Cheng, to think about these two aspects separately. Yet their works are related to the "new collective" phenomenon after immigration, that is, how immigrants are affected at various levels in their local life, how they also play the role of "influencers", and how their identity with neighbors has quietly changed. Their structural status andthe relationship between new identity cognition and the local environment areimportant topics in this exhibition.
Assemblage will be first presented in de Art Center and the Goethe-Institute China, in June 2019. And then itwill present in the project exhibition in Gwangju Asia Culture Center.
Ming Wong and Enoch’s new film work will be presented in the Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival 2019 as well as in the project exhibition in Gwangju Asia Culture Center.
On June 12th we will invite all participating artists to discuss on the topic 'How to perceive migration today'.
